How to play Word Deduction

Try Word Deduction at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Use the example below to understand a decision. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Your goal

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Controls

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Look at the feedback after the action.

A useful example

An answer containing one E can award only one positive E mark in a guess containing two. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. Check the rule before repeating the action. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
